Eliana Age 7

Dearest Eliana,

I can not believe I am the mommy of a 7 year old. When you woke up and I told you I didn't know how to be a mommy to a big kid, you pragmatically told me "ask Mrs. Amy. She has done it twice". Ahhh yes. You have so many great qualities, child, but the ability to get a joke isn't one of them. I love watching you read the children joke book and having to explain why they are funny.

While jokes my not be your thing, it isn't because you don't like silliness  You love to pretend and explore make believe worlds of your own creation. You creativity is so endless, I am blown away on a daily basis.

I am enjoying this stage of independence and responsibility. I love that you can care for your brother for me when I need your help. You can make your own breakfast, get snacks for your sisters, sort laundry, sweep and mop, clean a bathroom and ride a bike. You are pretty sure you know everything and hate to be wrong.

Little girl, I love your style (even those massive white sunglasses you insist on wearing), your innate sense of justice, the way you care for those littler than you even when it is inconvenient. I am so glad you are my kid, that God saw it fit to entrust you into our care. Love you bunches, Elie bear.

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. Not my fault

The other night we had company for dinner. I had 3 dessert choices, which Matt said was excessive. Whatever. It isn't my fault that he doesn't like cherries and so I had to make flourless chocolate cake with almonds and ganache for him. The baby wanted black forest brownies and I just happened to have blueberry cheesecake on hand from the day or two before. Anyway, our guest was expecting too, and twins at that! It isn't my fault I burned my tongue on the hot-out-of-the oven pina colada cake. It smelled soooo good and the baby said he needed a bite RIGHT NOW. And who am I to say no to a little guy who is just trying his best to grow and get fat? What kind of mother would I be? I spend a majority of time in yoga pants, which I should not be blamed for. After all, if the makers of maternity clothing understood how hard it is to keep pants on a round belly, maybe they would be a little more innovative . My life plan

Some people have "bucket lists", which I admire, you know how I LOVE myself a good list. Strangely enough, I have yet to make a bucket list. This totally seems like something I would love to do; I love a good plan and lists make me unquestionable happy...maybe I can add "bucket list" to my "to-do" list. While I don't have myself a handy dandy "bucket list" I do have a well organized life plan. I assume God has some plans of His own for my life and I am more than happy to switch to His plan at any time. But until I see the sky writer/direct message from God, this is what I am going to be doing: 1- Move to Jersey for Matt's job. Ok, so he doesn't actually HAVE the job in Jersey but a plan has to start somewhere. Live in Jersey for a couple of years, home school Eliana and work on getting my parent educator certification so I can practice as a postpartum doula and parent educator. 2- Move back to Colorado.
