Our Candidate's

John McCain- The US Senator from Arizona serving from 1987. A POW in Vietnam, ran from president in 2000, was asked by John Kerry to be his running mate. In 2002 his voting record was 6 most liberal of republicans. By 2005, he was the 3ed most Conservative. Wrote the book "Faith of My Fathers" that was made into a movie. Was named one of Times "25 most influential people" in 1997. If elected, he will be the country's oldest president at age 72. Strong supporter of Bush and the current war. He is married to Cindy, has 7 children and 4 grandchildren.

Barack Obama-Current jr US Senator from Illinois. Has lived all over the world, schooled in Hawaii, went to college at Columbia and then Harvard, majoring in Political science. Taught constitutional law. In 1996 was elected to state senate. Listed as one of Times "Worlds most influential people". He is married with 2 daughters.

Its funny, as I type this I notice I have much less to write under the "Barack Obama" heading than I do under the "John McCain" heading. I think part of it is that Barack is young, there really just isn't that much history behind him, which could be a problem. He is also very "out there". The media loves this guy, so I feel like he is better known in general. One of the things Barack has going for him is his ability to use technology to further his cause. He pod casts and blogs, he is publishing a book about his politics, he is very with the times. On the other hand, there seems to be a much better feeling of being "rooted" in John McCain.

I don't know who I am voting for. Frankly, I don't love either of our top two choices and don't like the fact it is pretty much narrowed to 2 choices. I choose to believe that there is a person out there who is un-sullied by politics with a great plan for America, but since he is the little guy, he will never be seen or voted for. I don't have a clue how to fix this, but, as I am sure you assumed, there is more to come.

Did you catch the CNN broadcast on Saturday night of the candidates talking with Rick Warren at Saddleback Church? Here is a link to the transcripts:
http://rickwarrennews.com/transcript/
Matt and I taped it and watched it yesterday. I agreed with a lot of Obama's ideas (surprise, surprise), but I know that the big issue for most Christians is the abortion issue, which is a hard one.
I liked how Obama thoughtfully responded to each of Rick Warren's questions while McCain just gave quick, pat answers and then just told a million L-O-N-G stories.
I agree that neither of them are excellent choices, though!

As of yet I have not seen the debate at Saddleback but I do know who I am not voting for.

I will admit I am simple minded but I cannot stand before my God when He chooses to take me home and say that I supported a murderer of His innocent children.

I cannot stand before my God when He chooses to take me home and say that I supported a man who supported perversion and denied God's plan of one man and one woman. Nope, can't do that.

Call me simple minded but I don't believe a perverse murderer can successfully lead our country. So, guess who I'm not voting for.

Correction---I should not have called Obaman (oh, I just gave away who I'm not voting for) a murderer. I have no idea if he's murdered anyone or not but he does support murder in the guise of a women's choice.

Okay, I feel better for clearing that up.

Oh, and yes, there's been more perverse supporters of murder leading our country and I think that's why we are where we are today.
I'm glad you posted this, Gretchen. If you did not catch the Saddleback interview, you can actually watch the whole thing on CNN.com. Both candidates were long-winded in various ways (they ARE politicians after all), so reading it might be more of a chore than it would be informative. Side-note, McCain's answers were shorter on enough questions that Warren was able to squeeze in a few that Obama didn't have time to answer. Anyway, I agree that there's no super-exciting choice this election. I, too, wish that regular guy with good answers would run...

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. All washed with my homemade laundry soap. -I recovered the "green monster" which is another post entirely. -I added a sitting area in my bedroom, where I am currently sitting, so that my laptop has a home other than the kitchen table. - I got a new dining room table a

Birth Story of Jamison Drake Crocker

Not everyone likes to hear how a baby made his way into the world. If you are one of those who just wants to know that baby has arrived and everyone is doing great, then read no further than this paragraph. Jamison Drake Crocker was born at 10:45 on Friday morning, May 18th. He is a big, healthy boy weighing 9lbs and 2oz and is 21.5 inches long. Mama and baby are doing great, sisters are in love and papa is proud. If you are still reading, consider yourself warned. Birth can be messy, and while I have every intention of keeping this non-stomach churning, not all stomachs are made of the same stuff. On Thursday night, Matt had to be in the city for a press event. Around 10:00 I texted and asked him for an ETA and he said he would be home around midnight. I took my very round self and went to bed. I slept fitfully, big and uncomfortable and being woken up by contractions every so often kept me from falling into a deep sleep. At 3:00 am I got up only to find Matt wasn't home. I

Changes

A few years ago, a group of friends and I read a great book called "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck". If you haven't read this book, you are missing out. Its quality. It also came at a time in my life that I really needed the message; you can't care about everything. This book encourages you to figure out your values and use your time in energy in THOSE places, because we can't invest ourselves in every thing, even if they are good things! Its no secret that I was raised in family culture that was heavily evangelical Christian. Anyone who knows me at all knows that I hold that faith system and those who follow it in NO high regard. The last 5 years has confirmed that opinion. Even though I was raised to make Christianity my value set, and it was for many years, I find that I no longer align with those values, people or that style of thinking. I am proud, thrilled, at peace, and excited to be an atheist. My life has never been more on track or full of joy than
