Christmas- A Holiday in 3 parts

Part 1- Pueblo

Last week we went to Pueblo to do an early Christmas with Matt's family. They will be in New York for Christmas. Elie loves going down there, her uncles dote on her. We had a Christmas dinner of lasagna that was awesome. We opened gifts and gave my favorite present of the year: a marine dog. Matt's bro Luke is over seas right now, so we made his parents a dog in a Marine outfit at build a bear. We recorded a message from Luke to wish his parents a merry Christmas. it turned out great and was a big hit. Elie and her Grandpa read "What God wants for Christmas".

Part 2- Ross Family Christmas with friends

On Christmas eve, we celebrated Christmas with my family and our good friends the McHams who were in town for a few days. We started with a brunch at my sister Amanda's house which was fabulous! We opened presents and then took the kids home for much needed naps. When the kids woke up, we all met up at dad's church for the 4pm service. Elie loved the candles and the music. We then went to Dad's house to do dinner and stockings. The kids were beat by bedtime.

Part 3- Crocker Family Christmas

We had Christmas morning with just our family, mom and dad. It was really nice. We started with the birth of Jesus, moved on to stocking and presents. We had a wonderful breakfast of waffels with home-made peach jam, eggs with green chilie and juice. The girls loved it. We have a family tradition of 3 gifts each, just like Jesus got. Somehow, we still end up with tons of stuff. I got a fabulous cook book from Matt's folks in CA with all kinds of really cool cup cake ideas. Can't wait to try it out, and I just happen to know of some little one who has a birthday comming up!

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. All washed with my homemade laundry soap. -I recovered the "green monster" which is another post entirely. -I added a sitting area in my bedroom, where I am currently sitting, so that my laptop has a home other than the kitchen table. - I got a new dining room table a...

Blogging

So I have lost the love of blogging. I have always believed it is a narcissistic pass time, yet enjoy it anyway. I have found I easily spend entirely too much time tied to my computer. By the time I check Facebook , e-mail, friends blogs, etc I can easily waste an hour, if not two, of time. A friend of mine just blogged about the same thing. Yes, I get the irony of a blog post about not blog posting, but alas, here it is: I just read a good friends blog about my blog. A great leader here in Boulder, Kevin Colon wrote this: “Hugh moved to Denver to do a training deal for an organization and he ended up starting a church. His blogging is not incredibly frequent but when he does blog….it’s good!” Now, while I’m humbled that a man like Kevin would even want to read my blog, I figured it was a good time to state once and for all why I only post once or twice a month. Simply this……..”I prefer to spend my time with people.” I’ ve always wondered how people have time to read blogs, let alo...

Thrifty

I love a good deal. Craigslist and Good Will are my favorite kind of shopping. This may be due to dressing a family of 4 on a budget, but, when it comes right down to it, I blame my mother. She is the queen of cheep shopping, after all, she had to dress a family of 5! I think of it this way: I am currently bringing in very little money. Funny how moms work really hard but don't make much. Since I am not bringing in the big bucks, the only way I can contribute to the budget is by making it stretch. So I do a lot of my own baking. I bought a clothes line, it keeps the house cooler by not running the dryer and saves money too. I shop sales. Most of all, I love to shop Goodwill, garage sales, Freecycle and Craigslist. My Current good deals: 1-Single bike trailer for Matt and Amanda, Burley-$10 Goodwill 2- Wooden table and chair for Elie's room-$6 Goodwill 3- Loving Family Doll house-$5 Garage Sale 4- 20 outfits for Elie and Addie-$5 Garage Sale 5- Train Table- Free Freecycle Some m...
