Our trip- Part 2

Here are the highlights of the rest of the trip:

Friday: Matt went to work and then came back to the hotel to pick up Addilyn and I. We drove to his friend Otis' house and dropped off the baby and went out to a great little Mexican place. The town his friend lives in is beautiful, so we walked around for a while before going to pick up Addie.

Saturday: We checked out of our hotel in San Jose after a big breakfast and headed up to San Fransisco. We got there a little after noon and walked down pier 39 and fisherman's wharf. We then headed up to my happy place; the Ghirilldeli Factory. We enjoyed some chocolate and people watching then headed back to the car. From there we headed up to the red wood forest, Muir woods. Addilyn fell asleep in the car, so we didn't stop for long and just enjoyed the view. We checked into our hotel in Napa, it was awesome. Completely gorgeous with swans, fountains, beautiful outdoor sitting areas and an open bar.

Sunday: Our day of rest was spent worshiping God over the glory of beautiful country and good wine. We started at V. Suttie, where we have been before. We enjoyed a 6 sample tasting before moving on to Sterling Vineyards. At Sterling, you take a gondola up to the top of a hill that over looks the vineyard. This was our favorite. The tour was informative and you get to sample 5 different wines. On to our last vineyard, that was our least favorite. They had beautiful gardens, but seemed pretentious. They did have a nice display of pumpkins and gourds, which addilyn thoroughly enjoyed. We headed back to the hotel by way of the groceries store to pick up some munchies for dinner.

Monday: Are day started bright and early, after enjoying a cooked to order breakfast. We headed out to my second favorite places- the Jelly Belly factory. They have the coolest tour, but you can't take pictures. We ate a quick lunch and headed to the airport.

Well, that was our trip, we had a blast. It feels so good to be home as a family again.

A funny Elie saying: Matt was showing her the pictures we took. she saw the big things of wine and I explained that the wine was aged in the barrels. Matt told her some of the wine was older than she was. She said" I'm not old, I am regular. See, smell me!"

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. All washed with my homemade laundry soap. -I recovered the "green monster" which is another post entirely. -I added a sitting area in my bedroom, where I am currently sitting, so that my laptop has a home other than the kitchen table. - I got a new dining room table a...

Blogging

So I have lost the love of blogging. I have always believed it is a narcissistic pass time, yet enjoy it anyway. I have found I easily spend entirely too much time tied to my computer. By the time I check Facebook , e-mail, friends blogs, etc I can easily waste an hour, if not two, of time. A friend of mine just blogged about the same thing. Yes, I get the irony of a blog post about not blog posting, but alas, here it is: I just read a good friends blog about my blog. A great leader here in Boulder, Kevin Colon wrote this: “Hugh moved to Denver to do a training deal for an organization and he ended up starting a church. His blogging is not incredibly frequent but when he does blog….it’s good!” Now, while I’m humbled that a man like Kevin would even want to read my blog, I figured it was a good time to state once and for all why I only post once or twice a month. Simply this……..”I prefer to spend my time with people.” I’ ve always wondered how people have time to read blogs, let alo...

Thrifty

I love a good deal. Craigslist and Good Will are my favorite kind of shopping. This may be due to dressing a family of 4 on a budget, but, when it comes right down to it, I blame my mother. She is the queen of cheep shopping, after all, she had to dress a family of 5! I think of it this way: I am currently bringing in very little money. Funny how moms work really hard but don't make much. Since I am not bringing in the big bucks, the only way I can contribute to the budget is by making it stretch. So I do a lot of my own baking. I bought a clothes line, it keeps the house cooler by not running the dryer and saves money too. I shop sales. Most of all, I love to shop Goodwill, garage sales, Freecycle and Craigslist. My Current good deals: 1-Single bike trailer for Matt and Amanda, Burley-$10 Goodwill 2- Wooden table and chair for Elie's room-$6 Goodwill 3- Loving Family Doll house-$5 Garage Sale 4- 20 outfits for Elie and Addie-$5 Garage Sale 5- Train Table- Free Freecycle Some m...
