Go!

We are moving buildings again at church. I'm glad. When I started going to this body of believers, we met at a Rec center. It was nice, no overbearing feeling of "Church-e-ness" that has a tendency to make me slightly nauseous while making me put on my Happy Church Face. The meeting felt...organic. Real people hanging out, journeying together because they like each other. We often sat at round tables and had discussions, we drank wine, we laughed. I loved it.

Then we moved and it sucked. We sat in pews facing an alter. It was the same people but a totally different dynamic. It felt "churchy" which is not what we wanted so we quit. Some people dig church in its traditional dress, its just not our bag.

The church felt the same way, to stay true to its original intent, it is moving again. Hugh talked about what it means to be the church, how the church was called to "go". So often going is hard because it means to leave something else.

I have a friend who recently said she fears God's will because she is afraid it might not be what she has planned for her life. I totally get that and think if we were all honest, most of us feel this way. Here is what we forget: God made me. He created me to be different than any other person in the world, with different talents, likes and dislikes and with a different influence than any one else has.

God isn't a bully, he doesn't shove me into his will kicking and screaming, He just asks me to "go". I have free will, but God has a plan that would fulfill the darkest corners of my hearts desire that I didn't even know I had. I am not saying it is God's desire to make me happy, it isn't. It is God's desire to make me whole in areas I didn't know were broken. He wants to show me Himself in areas it wouldn't occur to me to look. Life in God's will isn't easy, it isn't happy, it is a joy that runs soul deep and that can't be defined. God is my loving father, I can trust Him with my heart and every thing I feel that is anything of worth, my dreams, my love, my children. God may take these from me, he may ask me to go. He wants me to leave the gutter that I believe is every thing I want, and he wants to show me the ocean of real worth, real dreams, real love, to show me things only God can.

Great post Gretch! I'm glad to hear your church is moving to another buidling. I completely understand why having pews and an alter shifted the vibe of this original church and distracted from the community vibe!

And I like how you explained God's will. You're right...he's not going to force us into something that breaks our spirit. He might lead us down scary paths, but we have to trust that the end is better than what we could have imagined.

Um, if you have a moment, could you ask God if he wills me to be married someday? I'd sure like that... :-)

Nice one! Our sermon on Sunday was similar and compared God to a dresser and us to the drawers. Sometimes we think we're the dresser and our priorities are the drawers but we get it mixed up. He opened the drawers and pulled out things like a picture of his family, golf tees and a Bible - all fine - and then a Maxim & Glamour magazines, a knife, a TV remote (to signify bad things you can see on TV) - not ok. I breathed a sigh of relief until he pulled out the People magazine - AY YI YI! Am I ready to give it up??? I was like "Preach on!" until that came out of the drawer. Oh well - I have a full subscription that doesn't run out for a few more months but then I suppose I'll have to face the truth.....!
Good thoughts!!! You guys should move to Hawaii... ;)
I am loving the atmosphere of where I am at, because it is a community of people encouraged to passionately pursue the passions God has placed in their heart in order to further His kingdom. There isn't some sort of structure to when we worship. It usually happens every day, but in an unplanned way. Someone whips out a guitar, someone shares something God has showed them or put something on their heart...It's been way too cool. :)

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. All washed with my homemade laundry soap. -I recovered the "green monster" which is another post entirely. -I added a sitting area in my bedroom, where I am currently sitting, so that my laptop has a home other than the kitchen table. - I got a new dining room table a...

Feeling Resolute

I am a list person. I don't actually follow everything I write down, but I do write it down. Sometimes I think it is my weird way of feeling like I have my life under control. Not only do I make lists for myself, I make them for Matt. Yes, I know that is obnoxious so I don't always give him the lists I make for him. Yesterday I tortured my husband by making him sit down and make a list WITH me. I do it every year. You see, Matt is an amazing big picture person, but details kill him. Annually I make him sit down and write goals. We categorize them by finance, work, personal, spiritual, etc. It kills him to have to be specific. I keep the list every year and we read it together. This significantly brightened Matt's mood, to hear all the things we have accomplished this year. Our debt is reduced, relationships have been formed and baby #3 can be totally checked off the goal list. This year I am resolving to blog every day. The reason for this is 2 fold, neither of which is me ...

Sugar Free and Me

Not so long ago, I went to the Doctor. It had been a while. The last time I had seen a doctor I was having a baby. Since the trip was long over due, I had all my blood work and such done. Everything came back just fine...well, almost everything. The same genes that make me a celiac are also the ones they see in diabetics. Double whammy crappy genes. My fasting blood sugar came back at 99. You are considered pre-diabetic at 100. Ugh. I have been successfully ignoring this information for months. Last week I went to the doctors again, twice in one year! This may be a non-pregnant record for me. I hate going to the doctor, it is expensive and inconvenient and they always find a reason to poke you. I was discussing with my doctor my up-coming surgery (don't freak out, it isn't anything big, just a bump in my hand) and she asked about my over all health. She asked how I was handling my blood sugar. Funny thing about doctors, they don't really want to hear about how you find the ...
