Frugal Fashion: Part 1- The Reflection

Fashion is one of those funny things, kinda like good parenting. What some consider awesome, others not so much. Most agree on the truly horrendous (such as Britney Spears, in both fashion and parenting), but there is really a lot of gray area to consider. Everyone does it differently. After some reflection here is what I have learned:

1. Just because it is "in style" doesn't mean I should wear it. Case in point: skinny jeans. I have a friend who rocks the skinny jeans WHILE PREGNANT and looks fabulous. I look a bit like an overstuffed sausage. I have too much butt and too little...well nothing is too little and there in lies the issue. No skinny jeans for me. Also the "underwear as outerwear" thing is not exactly conducive to my lifestyle. Little lacy numbers are not made for people who actually put there breasts to good use.

2. Don't betray yourself, it wont look good on you. Just because it is "in style" and you can pull it off doesn't mean you should. I like some kinda funky stuff, it reflects my personality well. My sister Amanda dresses very well and differently than I do. Her life is different than mine as is her personality. Know yourself, your style and what calls to you and stick to it.

3. Fashion is fickle. Don't spend a ton of money on a hot item that will be cold next season. Invest in jeans that make you butt look Divine and your legs look long, you will wear them for several years.

4. Remember that it doesn't really matter. Fashion is not life changing. It may seem trite that I should devote 4 blog posts to something innate as what to wear, but I have my reasons. You see, fashion may not save the world but it makes me feel better. When I give thought to my outfit and feel good in what I wear, it makes me happy. I feel put together, ready to take whatever may come my way (which more often than not involves some sort of bodily fluid)

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and i am most often beheld by my girls, who think I am beautiful in yoga pant and a tee. But on those rare occasions when I get the opportunity to interact with someone over 4 feet tall, I will now be able to hold my head up high. I will look put together, effortless, trendy and with the times, because, after all, looks can be deceiving.

Working on my Domestic Goddess Badge

I looked at the to-do list I made last week and am happy to say I can cross off almost everything on it. It only took me 2 weeks. I think I either need smaller lists or more time. Here is what I have been up to: -I have made 2 loaves of banana oat bread, 1 batch of blackberry strawberry freezer jam, 1 loaf of gluten free bread. -From 12 juiced grapefruit I made grapefruit curd and a pan of grapefruit bars. -My garden is almost completely done, including a upgrade in size. I am growing tomatoes, onions, peppers, potatoes , cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower , herbs, lettuce, spinach , green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and kohlrabi. -I hung herbs to dry -I have folded massive amounts of laundry...with more yet to do. All washed with my homemade laundry soap. -I recovered the "green monster" which is another post entirely. -I added a sitting area in my bedroom, where I am currently sitting, so that my laptop has a home other than the kitchen table. - I got a new dining room table a

Birth Story of Jamison Drake Crocker

Not everyone likes to hear how a baby made his way into the world. If you are one of those who just wants to know that baby has arrived and everyone is doing great, then read no further than this paragraph. Jamison Drake Crocker was born at 10:45 on Friday morning, May 18th. He is a big, healthy boy weighing 9lbs and 2oz and is 21.5 inches long. Mama and baby are doing great, sisters are in love and papa is proud. If you are still reading, consider yourself warned. Birth can be messy, and while I have every intention of keeping this non-stomach churning, not all stomachs are made of the same stuff. On Thursday night, Matt had to be in the city for a press event. Around 10:00 I texted and asked him for an ETA and he said he would be home around midnight. I took my very round self and went to bed. I slept fitfully, big and uncomfortable and being woken up by contractions every so often kept me from falling into a deep sleep. At 3:00 am I got up only to find Matt wasn't home. I
